Reflecting on Your future

My May experiment in Innovative Teaching Scholars Program is about trying to help my students reflect on their career aspirations. I decided to use Padlet for my students to share their life and career goals anonymously. Since it was during semester break, I asked my current students (especially forth year undergraduate students) and alumni to join this activity at their convenience. After a week of creating this Padlet, there were 8 current students and 5 alumni sharing their thoughts on the posts. Everyone could also encourage one another by ‘giving a heart’ and adding their comments to the posts.

I was surprised that many students would prefer doing more challenging job or starting their own business over doing a routine job. Some students would like to continue their study in the graduate school to gain more knowledge and career opportunities. After this activity, I have realized that learning what my students need for their work life (whatever path they want to do) is very important and I should consider this when planning my course outline in order to help my students get ready for their real life after graduation.

Finally, I would like to thank my learning partner, Ray Ting-Chun Wang from Thammasat University, as well as my coach, Meenu Singh from Stanford University, for sharing our ideas, our experience, and what we have learned. This may be the last experiment in Innovative Teaching Scholars Program but I am extremely certain that learning is a journey that never ends. This program have already changed my perspective about innovative teaching. I am ready to find out new creative ways and create my own journey towards more effective learning for my students.
