My First Internship Experience

When i joined LinkedIn,i gradually got to see many law students’ profile then i realised that most of the law students have done many internships, from NGO to Khaitan & Co. and even they have many experiences like they are done with many courses related to their career.

Since i was in my second semester so i thought to apply for the internships and most the time senior suggests to start internship with NGO, then i applied for so many internships, at the end of the month my two internships got confirmed, so i just started with those two internships but in first week of my internship i got in dilemma which one should i prefer? then as usual i choosed to go with the NGO one.

When i started this internship, i was very much excited because obviously it was my first internship and anyone would be curious about their first internship. There were around 24 interns when we started but gradually the co-ordinator of this internship started removing interns, as it was my first internship so i did not pay any attention to it but later gradually i started realising that something is going wrong, now i am just going to tell you why i felt like this, see first thing was that it was legal internship where interns were required to do legal research and write four articles but the problem is that the day i received the call from this internship for interrogation, the women on the other side of call asked me if i am free in this particular internship month or not? i said yes i am free, so i asked her, basically what are we required to do in this internship?she said, you people just have to write four articles and then your co-ordinator will ask you to complete few task, that’s it, then i asked what kind of task that would be? she said nothing much but just related to social media. So i thought “oh maybe”,this would be like sharing some post or something like that but now when we were doing our internship and most of the interns were done with their two article submission then the so called task got unveiled and what was that, are you curious to know? but let me tell you guys it was blunder of my life i mean many of the interns thought that this task is just for the sake of checking our efforts but “NO” it was not just for the sake of effort check but it was the actual motive of this NGO, which was the so called session booking task, and even not one session per intern but three sessions per intern. Now well when i was done with my two articles, i started thinking about this task, what kind of task is this?and how to do everything and all🤷‍♀ then i thought to perform the tasks as the way they said but wherever the way they suggested was that of cold mailing and everyone is familiar that sending cold mails is illegal in India and in many countries as well. So i got back to the coordinator and asked, did you ask us to send cold mails but she did not reply, i got to know that there is something wrong are not? So i thought to choose the safest way to perform the task which was to call the institutes ragarding, but for a first year student it was lil bit tough but okay, i thought to do this but exactly what now i think is perhaps i should not have done these things infact i should have stopped it ab initio when i realised there is something wrong with these guys. So yes, i did not leave it, but performed the task as the way they said then submitted my last two article by the end of that internship month. Every third or fourth day we had always sessions of one to two or three hours, i had attended every single session except one but when we were done with our internship they just blatantly denied to give our internship certificate, only 3–4 interns received it and most of us were denied, it was the greatest slap, even an intern can’t digest this after performing exhaustive tasks and running their minds throughout the month on legal research. Many of us asked about the reason to deny, even it was that much depressing that no intern will ever try to do internship like this. I asked to the coordinator she refused on the grounds that was not legitimate to me, many of the interns left the internship group and forgot about the certificate, few of them agitated but nothing happened infact the main problem of this internship was that the people who were regulating this internship, and they were never humble, they even don’t know how to behave with an intern, and those three people had never stick to their words and after these things we even can not expect from them to behave properly. We interns had provided our 31+ days to this internship, submitted well researched four articles within the month, filled the copyright form, performed the unwanted tasks but received in return the so called “blatant deny”.
