5 Tips to Help You Network Like a Boss At Cannabis Events

Many small businesses need to network at cannabis events to build beneficial connections. Since most of the industry is made up of different parts, it’s important to have a large enough network of experts around to draw valuable information. With 4/20 around the corner, the uptick of cannabis events is about to get real across the states. If you want to take advantage and find some value in networking at some of these gatherings, you should take some tips to keep handy just in case.

You’ve probably learned in Business 101 that you should be carrying business cards even in your sleep. Things are still the same. Even though now we can build off of just a DM, still have your short stack of cards handy. It shows that you’re going the extra mile, and keeps you in the back of people’s minds. It’s naturally easier to grab a card than remembering a person’s website or their company’s name. Three things to keep in mind;

You’re there to meet and mingle with professionals, so have something valuable to share. Try not to shy away from eye contact and aim for light conversation. Some helpful things to remember:

We all like free stuff. I still scan for coupons at the grocery store and we all love a great Groupon deal. So, when events come up and you pay big money for a seat, you may want to see where your money went. The thing is, though the freebies are fun, you came for the prospect of building partnerships. So, it helps if you prioritize your way through the evening.

For example, meeting the people at the top of your list first and then mingling with the crowd after could help you feel more accomplished with how you spent your time there.

You can always have time to grab the free stuff but try not to make it a top option on your must-do list.

It’s easy to be uncomfortable in a room of people you don’t personally know. It’s not a party where the lights are dim and you could get lost in the music. You’re in a room filled with professionals and they’re likely to be wary of another ambitious story about how you can help.

So, be friendly first. Say hello, make small talk and use casual conversation. A person would remember a joke you shared with them before they would remember your name, so loosen up and have some fun with it. That doesn’t always come easy but take note;

If you feel like being away from a familiar face is not your cup of tea and you’ll feel better knowing someone has your back, invite your wingman along. Think of someone in your group of friends able to be your cheerleader. You need them to be comfortable to lead you to introductions but have the ability to slide out of the conversation and let you shine.

Comp their ticket and feel some ease knowing you can laugh off your nerves with someone who knows you well enough.

Everyone has their own version of a pep talk before a networking event. Thankfully cannabis events usually bring out cool calm and mostly friendly people. So, have some fun, mingle and brush elbows with the big names and people coming up in the industry. Don’t forget to prioritize and loosen up.

You can ease yourself into a business partnership from a connection at a networking event so chin up and walk up in there like a boss. Stay consistent with your networking strategy and though it’s nice to have useful tips and valuable advice, there’s nothing that beats just going for it; however, you see fit.

Be brave and get to networking.
